Here is the moment that the students realized that a pumpkin (no matter how large) would float! They loved it! (The teacher is Mrs. Howard...she is our student-teacher- the students love her!)

Here are some of our estimations/predictions and "What we Know" drawings. The students did an awesome job of illustrating what they know :)

Pumpkins! Pumpkins! Pumpkins!

During the week of October 25th - 30th we studied pumpkins. We did several science experiments during this week. Our science experiments consisted of measuring the height of the pumpkin using unifix cubes, measuring the circumference of the pumpkin using yarn, weight of our class pumpkin in pounds using a set of scales and will our pumpkin float or sink when placed in water. Prior to each experiment the students had the opportunity to make an estimation/prediction. The students have learned that an estimation/prediction is a guess. Many of the students got very close and made some really good estimations/predictions. The student's estimations/predictions about whether the pumpkin would float or sink was very interesting. Many students thought that since the pumpkin was so big and heavy that it would definitely sink to the bottom of the basin of water. In the end most of the students were very surprised to find that the pumpkin did not sink and that it floated.

Pumpkin Patch Field Trip
In October the Kindergarten Classes went to the Pumpkin Patch in Prairie Grove. Dr. Collins taught us all about the different kinds of pumpkins, the uses of pumpkins and the history of the "pumpkin". Each Kindergarten Class was allowed to walk through the patch and pick out a pumpkin to take back to their classroom to be used in their science center. A big Thank You to Dr. Collins.
